His Cousin Vinny

This week I chose to interview my friends cousin Vinny, as most everyone else I had asked had little to no views. After asking "who do you identify with and why" he replied "I am independent as for why I really couldn't tell you, could be that I just cant ever seem to decide on the right guy and when I thought I finally did he was assassinated. Could be because the views of many are not always the views of some, me being the some" he gestured with a thumb aimed at himself. " but all and all I think it stems from my father" he stated. "Seems more than not growing up you as much as you try to be your own person you end up identifying with your parents beliefs, my parents were independent so  I'm independent simple as that" as for a future Vinny had only one word "peace".

Subsequently I also interviewed my co worker James who identified as liberal but after listening a bit my thoughts swayed. As he went on with very valid points of limited government, individual liberty, free markets, and government defense I saw it he was in fact pretty conservative, but also strongly liberal with his "let people be people" attitude. When asked what would be the perfect future James replied "less government, equal rights, less police brutality".

I do not identify with just one party, an as I vote democrat I see myself to be more of an independent liberal, as I strongly agree with the view of the liberal parties such as, liberty, and equality, but there's one catch. I see the system flawed and seemingly impossible to ever agree with all views in just one party, so for this reason I also claim independent. Growing up I saw it all, was rich, poor, and ended up middle class so for this reason I feel, I can identify with every class and see no reason for there not to be equality throughout the nation no better yet the world. Alas between the media, national, cultural differences, religious views, and the powers at be, this is but a dream. The perfect future would be a one world government, but if we were to stay with the current system all I ask in leadership is truth something not seen to much in politics theses days. Other than that just less worry on the war on terror and war itself, but instead a plan to put the majority of those assets and funds into helping the middle, poor and rich class live comfortably. "If everyone could work 40 hours a week and support a household the world will be a better place".

From doing this blog I came to many realizations for instance, my friends cousin had a good point. My grandmother was liberal, and grandfather independent, so one could see how over the years watching the news together my views could have been slightly swayed into that direction. More importantly I learned of how badly this country needs a change for the better. Equal rights has been a battle going on since the dawn of mankind, with all this time and experience on earth that still seems to be the one concept that some just still unfortunately can not yet grasp.

Liberals seem to be pro choice, so I am this but some things like affirmative action I don't believe in. If we are to single out one race or many for something in the past its wrong, and still racist. People should get what they work for nothing more, nothing less. Now economically speaking Liberals believe in a market governed to keep the greed of big business out. Great in theory but far from reality, in a world where big business controls the majority of media, government, music, and even food its easy to side Conservative in the free market theory. I could go on and on on how confusing it can be to be sure what party could really truly fit so after this my views are truly more skewed than before, less definite on my outlook, and more informed but yet I am stuck with more questions than answers.

  1. Michael,

Good post, as I like how detailed that you discuss several policy points (economic, social, and other policies, such as affirmative action...). Keep writing those fine details in your blogs. The details fuel the fire of your argument.

I'm glad that you interviewed two people, but it seems like they were both a by shy and uninformative.

So, you're post doesn't really seem to kick in (with confidence) until you start discussing your personal views - which you do very well.

Despite having more questions now than before, as long as I got you thinking, we're both doing well. It gets tricky when Americans start to think about all the issues and how, most of us, are somewhere in the middle when it comes to our political affiliations.

This was a good post, despite the interviewees not being too chatty. It's well writeen. To stay as professional as possible, think about eliminating the "chatter" and personal banter that you infused here, and stick to the facts and analysis - always striving to sound more professional, confident, and extremely convincing in tone.

Oh, you forgot to include your interview questions. Also, this assignment was due the Monday before it was posted. Try to post on time.
